Jaheim (Jaheim Hoagland) is an American R&B singer. He was signed to Kaygee (of Naughty by Nature)'s Divine Mill Records in 2000 and released his debut album, Ghetto Love, through the label in 2001.
His second effort, Still Ghetto, was released a year later, both to platinum success. Jaheim's third album, Ghetto Classics, was released on February 14, 2006, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 selling over 153,000 copies in its first week.
Hoagland was born on May 26, 1978 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and grew up in the city's 176 Memorial Parkway Homes public housing project. Misfortune hit early when his father died in 1981, when he was only two years old.
Coming from a musical family helped Hoagland overcome the tragedy and the many pitfalls of his environment. His grandfather, Victor Hoagland, sang with many groups, including The Drifters, and their family reunions were big songfests.
Singing at family reunions and local talent shows preceded a successful tryout at the Apollo Theater's notoriously tough talent show. Hoagland, who has received comparisons to Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross, won the contest three times when he was 15.
After a nearly four-year hiatus, Hoagland returned to the music scene with his third album, Ghetto Classics, released in February 2006, which yielded the R&B hit single "Every Time I Think About Her".
Recently, Jaheim has left Warner Bros. Records and has gone to Atlantic Records due to the fact that effort was not put in on Warner Bros. part to promote his junior effort, Ghetto Classics.
