Duran Duran is an English pop group.
Duran Duran was formed in Birmingham England in 1978 by Nick Rhodes on Keyboards and John Taylor on Guitar with their mates Simon Colley on Bass and Stephen Duffy on Vocals. The name Duran Duran came from a character in the Jane Fonda Sci-fi movie Barbarella.
The band's hit singles include "Girls On Film", "Rio","Hungry Like the Wolf", "Save A Prayer", "Is There Something I Should Know?", "Planet Earth" , "Union of the Snake", "The Reflex", "Wild Boys," "Notorious", and the James Bond theme "A View to a Kill" in the 1980s, "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone" in the early 1990s, and "Sunrise", and "What Happens Tomorrow" in the 2000s. They have won two Grammy Awards for their music videos.
They were the most commercially successful of the New Romantic bands and a leading band in the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" of the United States. During the past three decades they have placed 21 singles in the Billboard Hot 100 and 30 in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, and have sold more than 85 million records.
The band performed in Wembley Stadium at the Concert for Princess Diana on July 1, 2007, being introduced by Prince William (standing next to his brother Prince Harry) as "one of my mother's favourite bands". The following Saturday, July 7, 2007, they performed a second time at Wembley Stadium at the Live Earth concert, London.
On September 29, 2007 the band announced nine shows on Broadway, playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on 47th street to launch the new album "Red Carpet Massacre". Over a two week period the band intend to showcase the new album, plus a special electro set and a selection of their classic hits.
