Bloggers, radio claim free speech trampled
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Liberal Internet bloggers and a conservative San Francisco radio station are trading charges that one is stifling the other's right of free speech.
Blog writers charge that some personalities at Disney-owned KSFO made comments that bloggers allege are racist or invite violence, USA Today said. On-air hosts counter that the bloggers are trying to silence their political views.
An online critic identified only as Spocko, had his blog temporarily shut down after Disney sent a cease-and-desist notice to Spocko's service provider, charging that Spocko used copyrighted KSFO content without authorization, the newspaper said The blog resurfaced with another provider.
Some advertisers pulled spots on KSFO after the net critics launched an e-mail campaign to KSFO advertisers, asking whether they wanted to be associated with a station that bloggers claimed allegedly called a politician a halfrican and purportedly asked a caller to prove he wasn't Muslim by insulting Allah.
During a debate on CNN, a station supporter said hosts' comments were blown out of proportion or misrepresented. A blog supporter said the way to fight against free speech one finds disagreeable is to engage in more free speech.
