The new Sound of Music musical has made more than £13 million in its first week, relates The Associated Press.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest production has been making huge amounts of money thanks to publicity from How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, the reality television show that picked an actress for the lead role.

The show took £1.1 million in its first eight hours of opening and has since made £12 million in sales for tickets. According to The Independent, Lord Lloyd Webber could earn himself £10 million profit from the its first year.

"The show has that essential star quality and it could run and run," a source said. The paper adds that where Connie Fisher, the reality winner, is probably earning £2,500 per week, Scarlett Johansson, who was the producer's original choice, would have cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Meanwhile, the other child actors will also demand smaller fees than adult professionals.
