Syesha Mercado was voted off "American Idol" Wednesday night, paving the way for the expected showdown between David Archuleta and David Cook, relates The Associated Press.
The two remaining male singers have been favored for the endgame for nearly two months now. They've consistently gained the warmest reviews from the judges and neither has strayed into the endangered bottom three even once.
By contrast, Mercado couldn't even impress puffball judge Paula Abdul in this week's competition. After her version of "Hit Me Up," the always-supportive judge speaking to Daily News said, "I don't know if it's going to be good enough to get into the finals."
Judge Simon Cowell referred to Mercado's take on Peggy Lee's "Fever" as "quite a lame cabaret performance."
Though ratings have been down for "Idol" this year, the series still trounces every other show on TV. Host Ryan Seacrest said some 56 million people voted in Wednesday night's competition.
The two remaining contestants will give their last judged performances Tuesday night, with the results revealed on a two-hour finale on Wednesday.
Next Wednesday the American Idol's fans wait for new surprises, who will be the next, is his name David?
