Justin Timberlake has denied he was sending a message to Britney Spears at this year's Brit Awards, claims the star in a statement to Mirror.

The singer was unable to attend the event to collect his Best International Male Artist award, and instead sent an acceptance speech on a video. During the thanks he focused on the camera and shouted: "Stop drinking, you know who you are, I'm speaking to you."

The outburst was seen as a message to Timberlake's ex Britney Spears, who was on the verge of entering rehab to curb her partying.

However, Timberlake laughed off the reports, insisting he hadn't even heard the rumours: "Oh my god, I don't even know anything about this," he said. "Honestly I am so far removed from that situation. A coded message to Britney?"
