Kelly Clarkson has apologized to Clive Davis for comments she made concerning his musical and business acumen.

Posting July 23 on her web site, the 2002 American Idol winner said "I want to set the record straight on this by saying that I want my band, my advisors, those close to me and my record label to be one big, tightly knit family. Like any family we will disagree and argue sometimes but, in the end, it's respect and admiration that will keep us together."

For months, the 25-year-old Clarkson has been embroiled in a dispute with Clive Davis. One of the most influential figures in contemporary pop, the 75-year-old music mogul oversees Clarkson's record label RCA.

Kelly ClarksonThe conflict arose over Clarkson's insistence on writing or co-writing all the material on her third studio album, My December. Davis reportedly wanted to use professional songwriters, as had been done with Clarkson's first two multi-million-selling albums, Thankful and Breakaway.

Released June 26, My December opened in fifth place on Billboard Magazine's Top 200 Pop Album chart. It has yet to produce a hit single.

Clarkson said "I really regret how this has turned out and I apologize to those whom I have done disservice."

A spokesman for Clive Davis did not immediately return a July 23 e-mail from the Associated Press seeking comment. // Voice of America
