A Manhattan community board is poised to decide whether to approve a liquor license for a proposed celebrity-backed burlesque club, the New York Post said.

Sting and David Bowie are financing the construction of Forty Deuces, the latest endeavor of Las Vegas club king Ivan Kane.

The upscale music and dance club is being built along the border of Manhattan's Little Italy and SoHo neighborhoods.

But some locals argue that the huge new club might draw drunken crowds to the area's narrow streets, the Post said.

"The bigger clubs tend to attract people who don't live here," said musician T.J. Rosenthal, who lives around the corner from the proposed site.

Members of Community Board 2 were expected to discuss the club's liquor-license application Tuesday night. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
