The representative of Moldova will perform in the first semi-final of Eurovision Song Contest 2008. The selection of those 19 countries to perform in the first semi-final took place on Monday, at Belgrade, Serbia.

According to the organizers, the 19 countries selected for the first semi-final, which will take place on May 20, are: Finland, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Poland, Bosnia Herzegovina, Estonia, Holland, Romania, Moldova, San Marino, Slovenia, Norway, Belgium, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia.

The participants of the second semi-final, planned for May 22, are: Croatia, Denmark, Bulgaria, Portugal, Ukraine, Switzerland, Macedonia, Island, Cyprus, Leetonia, Belarus, Hungary, Albania, Sweden, Turkey, Lithuania, Georgia, Czech Republic and Malta.

The national final of Eurovision 2008 will take place in early February, at the National Palace from Chisinau. The winner is chosen with 33% of the votes given by the specialized jury, tele-voting, and the reference team. As many as 12 singers will perform at the national final.

Though last year, the representative of Moldova, Natalia Barbu was on the tenth place in the great final, the condition is not available any more. Since 2008, only five countries will perform directly in the final of the contest, the main supporting sources of Eurovision: France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, and the winner of the last contest, according to the decision taken at the 50-th annual meeting of the Committee for Coordination of Activities of the TV channels EBU, held in Verona.

The other participants are divided into two semi-finals.  // BASA-Press
